This site provides mailing list services to the University of California, Davis.

Email should not be used as the only form of communication for notifications that require a timely response. Email, by design, does not guarantee immediate delivery. Under normal operation, an email message may take several minutes to several hours to be delivered. For notifications that need immediate or timely response, we recommend the use of alternative communications methods such as SMS or pagers.

Starting October 30, 2025, you can expect the following changes when you request a new Sympa list:

• Only active faculty and staff can request new email lists. If you are a student employee, former faculty member without an active appointment, temporary affiliate or non-affiliate of UC Davis, you will need to identify an active faculty or staff member to serve as a sponsor for your list. This active employee can place the request for a new list.


• Administrators of email lists may request that active students be assigned as secondary administrators under their supervision. To request that an active student be assigned as a secondary administrator to a list, contact IT Express.


• The Copy-an-Existing-List function is no longer available.

We are currently focused on ensuring that requests for new mailing lists comply with policy. Subsequently, we will address lists that have been dormant for a long time; lists, including class lists, whose owners are not active faculty members or staff; and lists that are otherwise out of compliance.

After October 30, if you want to modify an existing list, you can:

• Only re-assign ownership to an active faculty or staff member. Active students can be assigned as secondary administrators. Make these requests through IT Express.
• No longer copy an existing list.
