Welcome to Ecology-social! The information below is an orientation to our list -- please read it before posting.

If you don't start receiving emails by the end of tomorrow, please let me know!

What is this magical list?: Ecology-social has traditionally been for communication about non-professional (read: social!) things, including housing/roommate searches, ride shares, parties, free stuff, cheap stuff, fun stuff, and all manner of upcoming Davis happenings. Keep in mind that this list has about 1600 people on it, including grad students, post-docs, and all sorts of Davis community members (not just ecologists!)... they are a fun crowd of people, extremely capable of instigating shenanigans. The inhabitants of this listserv also have somewhat renowned, arguably magical powers to produce (with astonishing speed) the strangest of items for you to borrow. Need a rubber ducky by midnight or a rototiller for next Tuesday, and ecology-social has got your back!

Post thoughtfully and avoid replying-all unless it's something potentially useful to us all... but by all means, you should use this as a place to start an early-morning birding club or announce your German Sparkle party or meet a beer-brewing future roommate or find homes for your research project's no-longer-needed greenhouse seedlings. The only hard rule is to stay friendly and use the guidelines below to title your emails.

You MUST include one or more of these tags in the email subject:
[FREE]: (for free items you're giving away)
[FOR SALE]: (for items you'd like to sell)
[HOUSING]: (for housing searches or available rooms)
[NEEDED]: (for items or services that you're looking to borrow or purchase!)
[ADVICE]: (for any requests for Davis-centric tips and tricks, including academic advice)
[POLITICAL]: (for anything that falls under the general category of activism, Davis politics, etc)
[CHARITY]: (for requesting or suggesting any charitable donations)
[CAREER]: (for anything related to jobs, employment, or professional development)
[SOCIAL]: Anything that falls outside of those lines is the beloved SOCIAL part of ecology social, so feel free to go absolutely buckwild on the titles for those things... Those emails might include any parties, social events, community events, recreational events, live music,and special-interest groups/workshops/clubs/teams, etc (like Ecstatic Dance, book clubs, open nights at the Bike Collective, or IM sports teams looking for teammates).
So your email titles should go something like...
[HOUSING]: 2 br duplex in West Davis available for rent 9/1 ... or...
[FREE]: Popcorn machine mishap! Free snacks at my house right nowwwwwwwww ...or...
[NEEDED]: Label maker for my underground pesto operation?
